MAHARASHTRA CHIEF Minister Devendra Fadnavis pulled the curtains on the controversy related to Advocate General Shrihari Aney by giving him a clean chit on Thursday.
The Shiv Sena had demanded the resignation of Aney in the state assembly, which led to protests inside and outside the House.
However, Fadnavis made a statement late evening in the Assembly, reading out the explanation given by the advocate general to the state government.
According to Fadnavis, the advocate general told the government that he had attended a book launch function where several speakers discussed separate statehood for Vidarbha.
The advocate general also indicated that in reference and context to the function, he had only expressed his views on Vidarbha.
While acknowledging that there was nothing wrong in advocate general’s statement, Fadnavis refused to summon him on the floor of the House as demanded by Opposition leaders.
