Coaches laud goalkeeping seminar

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) organised goalkeeping seminar at the Cooperage ground in Mumbai came in for huge praise from the participating coaches. As the eight-day course came to an end,the participants admitted they go back home “enriched.” Former national team goalkeeper Tanumoy Basu lauded AIFF for the initiative. “If you notice there’s a range of coaching workshops being organised by the AIFF. Only in August,we were in Navi Mumbai for a coaches seminar and now within two months, another specialised course was conducted,” he maintained.

“Goalkeeping is a thankless job and it’s not everyday that there are courses conducted for them. I like to thank Kushal Das for the initiative,” Basu who played for India for over a decade added. The seminar – conducted by former German goalkeeper Lutz Pfannenstiel and German football scientist Felix Imm — comprised of both theoretical and practical sessions.

Western India Football Association (WIFA) secretary Souter Vaz added,“It’s the first time such a unique course has been conducted here. This programme will definitely benefit the goalkeepers, who will in turn share this knowledge with their wards.” AIFF Academy coaches Feroz Sheriff and Mario Aguiar too were all praise.

Aguiar added it was an unique course and such courses will enhance the standard of goalkeeping in India. “It was great to see courses for goalkeepers are taking place and with such detail. I have done two coaching license courses previously but this one was unique. I learnt some good drills which I can inculcate in my young goalkeepers,” he said.
