Sawant ‘tricks for Sunday Boys

Hat-Trick hero Prashant Sawant was on fire while exhibiting an immaculate scoring touch to guide Sunday Boys to a facile 4-1 victory against Income Tax in a Super Division encounter of the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) league at the Poinsur Gymkhana ground,Kandivili on Tuesday.

Starting off in rousing fashion,Sunday Boys nosed ahead in the very third minute when Sawant scored the first of his three goals. Income Tax fought on gamely but they found it a bit difficult to penetrate deep into the rival territory. For too long anyway.

Sawant could not be held back for too long,as he struck the back of the net once again in the 45th minute to double his team’s lead on the cusp of half-time. The second half saw little resistance from the Income Tax boys, and Sawant was ready to make the opposition pay yet again,as he completed his hat-trick in the 57th minute. But while the striker celebrated his feat, there was more to cheer about for Sunday Boys as Claudius Fernandes added a fourth goal in the 74th minute to make the evening increasingly forgettable for the opposition.

Now with nothing to lose,Income Tax did pull one back to put their names on the score-card,as Brian Lobo slipped the ball home with a close-range effort in the 85th minute.

In another match,Companeroes continued their solid run as they bulldozed their way to an emphatic 4-0 win against State Bank of India. Vinay Sharda,Shoeb Shaikh,Nixon Rodrigues and Reed Santosh all contributed a goal each to the team’s victory.
