MUMBAI: Members of Nitesh Rane’s Swabhiman Sanghatna and the Shiv Sena clashed outside the Four Seasons hotel in Worli Thursday afternoon, the police said, adding that 80 people from both sides have been booked for rioting although no one has been arrested. An officer from Worli police said, “Rane and a Shiv Sena leader got into an argument at 3 pm outside the hotel after which members from parties became involved. We dispersed them within minutes.”

VJTI student’s body recovered from lake

MUMBAI: A team of Navy divers recovered the body of VJTI student Mandar Patkar (17) from Tulsi Lake on Thursday afternoon, the police said. “The body at 12 pm. It has been handed over to Patkar’s parents,” said Vasant Tajne, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mulund Division. Patkar, a first year diploma in engineering student, had gone to the lake in Sanjay Gandhi National Park on Wednesday.

CR: Separate counters for Rs 5, 10 tickets

MUMBAI: The Central Railway will earmark Rs 5 and Rs 10 ticket counters at Thane and Kalyan stations from March 1. For easier identification, the railways has used colours at the windows — red for Rs 5 and yellow for Rs 10 tickets.

Auto driver molests woman cop, arrested

MUMBAI: An autorickshaw driver has been arrested for allegedly molesting a woman traffic constable. According to the Kalwa police, Rashid Iqbal Khan (22) was stopped by the victim at the Shivaji Chowk in Kalwa on Tuesday evening, as she saw him ferrying four passengers. “She asked Khan for his licence, but  he started arguing with her. When she told him to take his auto aside, he molested her,” said an officer.

JJ dean gets relief from arrest till Feb 25

MUMBAI: A sessions court Thursday granted interim relief from arrest till February 25 to Dr T P Lahane, the dean of JJ Hospital who is accused of making casteist remarks against a sweeper at his hospital. A special court will hear the matter under Prevention of Atrocities Act on February 25. Earlier, on February 18, the Bombay HC had stayed Lahane’s arrest and given him time till Thursday evening to move the sessions court.

9-year-old killed as bike skids

MUMBAI: A nine-year-old boy was killed after the motorcycle he was riding pillion skidded in Ghatkopar Thursday morning. The 19-year-old cousin of the deceased, who was driving the bike, has been booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
