Man gets 5-year jail term for molesting minor

Mumbai: The special Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSOA) court Thursday sentenced a 25-year-old man to five-year rigorous imprisonment for molesting a minor girl. The girl,who lived next to Santosh Rathod’s flat in Mulund,used to visit his place often. In March,when she was playing outside Rathod’s house,he called her into his house and touched her inappropriately.

Medical students stage protest

Mumbai:As many as 300 medical students participated in the state-wide agitation against dual-evaluation policy of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences Thursday. The protesters blocked traffic at JJ flyover. Across the state,6,000 doctors and 7,000 students joined the strike. “ The agitation will continue until a proper system is chalked out,” said Dr Santosh Wakchaure,president of MARD.

GRP cop assaulted on local train at Rabale

Mumbai: GRP constable Balkrishna Modak (53),on patrolling duty in a women’s compartment of a local train,was allegedly manhandled by two men at Rabale railway station late on Wednesday. Vashi GRP officers said the two men were dunk.

Prof convicted of molesting colleague

Mumbai: A professor of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University,Aurangabad,was convicted by a local court Thursday in a molestation case. Niraj Salunkhe,an associate professor,was arrested on August 13,2011,following a complaint by a woman colleague.
