Bombay High Court Monday allowed state government to allocate flats in Rocky Hill complex in Malabar Hill,which is said to be for housing state government officials and judges. This was after government pleader D A Nalavade told the court that the project has received an occupation certificate. The court was responding to a petition by New Shri Sagar Co-operative Housing Society,which opposed the project on several grounds,including alleged violation of CRZ norms and DC regulations.
Nigerian held with foreign currency
Customs Department recently arrested a Nigerian national for allegedly possessing undeclared foreign currency valued at Rs 42 lakh. Accused Bello Almou reached Mumbai from Nigeria via Dubai on an Emirates flight Thursday. Customs officials on suspicion stopped and searched him and found $80,000,equivalent to Rs 42.23 lakh.
Biker killed in accident at Vile Parle
Sales executive Rashid Shaikh (35) died after his motorcycle was hit by a speeding Honda City at Vile Parle on Western Express Highway Sunday morning. Police said the 22-year-old car driver,Sufiyan Ashraf Shaikh of Nerul in Navi Mumbai,had been arrested. Rashid worked with a private firm and resided with family at Azgar Ali Compound in Santacruz (East).
Robbery motive in Bhandup murder
Police Monday confirmed robbery was the motive behind the murder a 58-year-old Bhandup resident. Sangeeta Sawant was found murdered in her residence on Friday. Her son Shyamal told police that gold and cash worth nearly Rs 6 lakh was missing from the house. Several plumbers who were carrying out repair work in the house have been detained.
