2 BMC staffers assaulted during demolition drive

Two BMC staffers were assaulted in a demolition drive on Chapel Road,Bandra (W) on Wednesday afternoon. The officers had gone to demolish the porch of a house that they claim was encroaching on an open space in the area. “We did not go with police protection as it requires eight days notice. We decided to undertake the demolition this morning as part of our daily work. A showcause notice had been sent to the residents a few days ago,” said an official from the H-West ward office. “We are verifying the BMC’s complaint and have arrested two men. We are looking for two others,” said Shivajirao Kolekar,ACP.

RPF crackdown on posters promoting black magic

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) registered 164 cases of people sticking posters promoting black magic in trains this year. Eight persons were sent to jail in connection with the cases and the RPF realised a fine of over Rs 1.8 lakh from offenders. Special teams were formed for the drive. ENS
