Chavan call-up leaves MCA red faced

Spot Fixing Fallout

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) was left red-faced after it named Ankeet Chavan, who is arrested for spot-fixing in IPL,during its felicitation function at Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday.

The goof-up happened during prize distribution ceremony for Ranji Trophy players. While the names of players were called one by one,Chavan’s name was also called, leaving the audience stunned. “It was a mistake. His name shouldn’t have come at this occasion,” said a MCA official.

Chavan had a dream season for Mumbai last season and major highlight was his nine-wicket in one innings against Punjab. He was booked by Delhi Police in IPL spot-fixing case and later the BCCI had suspended him until inquiry is completed.

Meanwhile,Sachin Tendulkar, who played a crucial role in Mumbai’s conquest of their 40th Ranji Trophy title this season, received award for scoring the fastest century in the national championship.

Ajinkya Rahane (2010-11) and Rohit Sharma (2011-12) also got awards for scoring the fastest hundreds in Ranji Trophy.
