Five days after beginning phase 1 of the demolition procedure at the Campa Cola compound, only two flats remain, out of the illegal 90, in which the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) needs to cut water supply. Till date, BMC has disconnected electricity of 90 illegal flats, gas connection of 51 flats and water supply of 88 flats of the seven buildings in the compound. Officials from the civic body said that by Monday, phase 1 of the demolitions, which involves cutting essential supplies to the illegal flats, will be complete.
On Saturday, four teams from the water supply department took part in the demolition process. “It is taking time to cut the water pipelines as we have to tread carefully to ensure we cut only the ones supplying water to the illegal flats; also these pipes are hard to access making it more time-consuming. We should complete phase 1 on Monday,” said deputy municipal commissioner Anand Wagaralkar. Officials said a final report of phase 1 will be submitted to the additional municipal commissioner before taking further action. ens
