Kunal Vardhan, joint managing director of Neelam Realtors, who had fled after allegedly hitting a motorcyclist with his car earlier this week, surrendered at the Esplanade Court on Saturday and was granted bail.

Late on Thursday night, Vardhan was driving his BMW when he allegedly hit Mayur Kadam (24), a production assistant with Marathi film industry, near the Trident Hotel at Marine Drive. Police said Vardhan took Kadam to the Bombay Hospital and paid for his treatment before leaving. Kadam, however, succumbed to multiple injuries later. The Marine Drive police subsequently registered a case and initiated investigations into the incident.

“Vardhan surrendered at the Esplanade Court on Saturday and was subsequently granted bail. We are now in the process of collecting footage from closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras from the Trident Hotel and other sources,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police Rajendra Chavan, Colaba division. An officer with the Marine Drive police added that Vardhan was likely to be called in for questioning after they had scanned the CCTV footage and had a clearer idea of the sequence of events. Statements of doctors at the Bombay Hospital who interacted with Vardhan when he brought Kadam to the hospital will be recorded soon, police said.
