The BJP will invite allies Shiv Sena and Republican Party of India for its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s rally at Bandra-Kurla Complex here on December 22,the party’s state unit chief Devendra Fadnavis said Monday.

“Modi’s rally in Mumbai will mark the beginning of our campaign for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. Three other Modi’s rallies will be held in Vidarbha, north Maharashtra and Marathwada,” Fadnavis said, adding that no Modi rally was planned in western Maharashtra since he had already held a public meeting in Pune last month.

The BJP had contested 26 out of the 48 seats in the state during the 2009 Lok Sabha polls and won nine.

This is not the first time that Shiv Sena leaders have been invited at a BJP rally. Top party leadership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L K Advani have in the past shared dais with Sena founder Bal Thackeray.

On Monday,a core committee of Fadnavis, deputy leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Gopinath Munde and others held a meeting to discuss plans to mobilise people for the rally from across the state.

According to BJP office-bearers,preparing for the Modi rally was their top priority. “In Bihar, the state unit started preparations three to four months in advance,” they said.

Fadnavis said people from outside Mumbai would mostly be ferried by trains. The state BJP has set a target of 5 lakh-strong gathering for the rally.
