The D N Nagar police Friday arrested a 34-year-old businessman for allegedly kidnapping and assaulting a real estate agent who had borrowed Rs 48 lakh from him a year ago.

Mushtaq Ansari (48), a Mira Road resident, was allegedly kidnapped on Thursday from Andheri (West), where he had come to cast his vote for the Lok Sabha elections. The police said the suspect, Mohammed Shaikh, had also registered a cheating case against Ansari with the Mira Road police after he failed to return the amount loaned to him. “Shaikh and his accomplices bundled Ansari up in an Innova and took him to a godown in Kurla, where they allegedly assaulted him and threatened him with dire consequences if he did not return the money. They then handed Ansari over to the Mira Road police,” said an official from the D N Nagar police station. The police said Shaikh’s two accomplices were still at large.
