Paras Ram Bishnoi, one of the main accused in the Bhanwari Devi murder case, was on Thursday granted bail by a special Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) court in a drugs case dating back to 2002.

The bail was granted on a surety of Rs 5 lakh. However, the court stayed the order for four weeks to enable the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) to appeal against the same.

Bishnoi is the brother of Congress MLA Milkhan Singh, who was also arrested in the Bhanwari Devi case.

Bishnoi’s lawyer Ayaz Khan argued that he was falsely implicated in the case and said the case seemed to be politically motivated.

In May 2002,the DRI had issued a red alert notice against Bishnoi after he allegedly did not respond to the agency’s summons in the drugs case. He is accused of manufacturing and supplying mandrax tablets in a closed factory near Bilara,Rajasthan.

A consignment containing the contraband was intercepted at Vashi in Navi Mumbai in 2002,after which the DRI carried out a raid in Rajasthan.
