TAKING the road less travelled is not exactly new to Eina Ahluwalia. In fact, the conceptual jewellery designer has always been inspired by life’s small moments, which is perhaps why it should come as no surprise that her latest collection, aptly named Old Fashioned,is heavy on nostalgia. Speaking of a time when there was kindness, compassion and care, her designs spring from everyday things such as reading a book,or playing in the rain. For instance, the “Dance in the Rain” earrings remind one of gentle drops of the rain and playing with small paper boats. “Kindness” neckpieces,on the other hand, show delicate hands reaching out to each other in help and comfort. Ahluwalia says that the line stemmed from her love for all things old-fashioned; the fact that she was missing a time when people were nice, warm, gentle, caring and kind. “This collection symbolises living and loving with an open heart, being kind to ourselves and others and honestly, just being nice,” she says.
