ATM robbery bid: Security guard held, 1 on the run

The police have identified the guard as Rajkumar Awadh Kishor (21), a resident of Colaba’s Ambedkar Nagar area.

A security guard who claimed that he was attacked by three unknown men during a robbery bid at an ATM kiosk on Nepean Sea Road on Wednesday morning was allegedly captured on CCTV camera assisting a man break open the machine.

The police have identified the guard as Rajkumar Awadh Kishor (21), a resident of Colaba’s Ambedkar Nagar area. He was arrested on Wednesday evening after police examined CCTV footage of the kiosk.

“The duo had covered all the CCTV cameras installed at the ATM but missed the one placed atop the machine. The guard and his accomplice, whose face was covered, were captured on it. Circumstantial evidence and Kishor’s statement did not match, following which the footage was examined. Kishor was arrested on Wednesday evening,” said Krishna Prakash, Additional Commissioner of Police (south region).

He added that they were on the lookout for his partner, who was absconding.
