Government Railway Police (GRP) probing the death of Delhi nurse Preeti Rathi following an acid attack are questioning the staff at Batra Hospital, from where she graduated, and the institute where she taught.

A team of six GRP officers visited the hospital and institute Tuesday.

Preeti (25) died on June 1,a month after a masked man hurled acid at her at Bandra Terminus. She had come to Mumbai on Garib Rath and was to join Army Medical college,Colaba.

Her family, however,is not happy with the probe. “The (GRP) crime branch asked us the same questions we’ve answered before,” her brother Lalit Solanki said.

“A CBI probe must be ordered immediately,” he said.

Crime branch officers said they were looking for specific suspects and could not divulge much at this stage.

The only suspect GRP have arrested so far,Pawankumar Gahalon,is a former neighbour of the Rathis. But both Gahalon and Rathi families do not think he has anything to do with the attack.

Amarsingh Rathi, father of Preeti, said GRP retrieved their landline call detail records (CDRs). He said police were checking some specific unidentified numbers from April CDRs.

Wednesday, the family met home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde who promised a CBI inquiry.

Amarsingh said,“We have been assured of a CBI probe by the home minister,I’m waiting for that to happen.”
