Aditya Agrawal came from behind to beat favourite Ishpreet Singh Chadha and clinch the Malabar Hill Club-BSAM All India Under-25 Snooker Challenge 3 title on Tuesday
Down 2-3 in the best-of-7 frame encounter,Agrawal clawed his way back with some plucky display to prevail over the reigning junior and sub-junior champion of Maharashtra and winner of challenge 1 held at National Sports Club of India earlier.
Son of experienced state cueist Arun,Agrawal won the title contest 63-56 9-78 44-72 64-37 59-71 73-40 71-59. Agrawal, who trains at the Indian Snooker Academy here under former national champion Sanjay Sawant, dropped the fifth frame after the two rivals were on level terms at the breather when Chadha got lucky and potted the pink when trying for a safety shot.
Looking down the barrel,Agrawal captured the sixth frame with the help of small breaks to force the decider. He initially trailed his rival by 20 points in the last frame before catching up with Chadha and then taking the lead. Though Agrawal allowed his rival to come back when in firm control,he managed to ward off the late challenge and emerged triumphant. Agrawal won Rs 12,000 and Chadha got Rs 8,000.
Earlier,Chadha endured a roller-coaster ride in the semifinal en route to a 53-10,75-61,17-54,28-60,56-15,18-73,72-37 win over Laxman Rawat in a riveting best-of-seven frames semi-finals,after leading 2-0 and 3-2.
