Raja (43),film producer and elder brother of actor Rani Mukherji, was arrested by Versova Police on Sunday night for allegedly molesting a former top TV channel executive-turned film writer. She had gone to meet him with a proposal to cast Rani in a film.

Raja was presented before the Andheri court on Monday and released on bail for Rs 10,000.

Versova Police said the 40-year-old complainant,a resident of Yari Road, approached Raja through a contact and met him for the first time on Sunday. They said she wanted to cast Rani in the lead for a film she had scripted and was planning to direct and called up Raja on Saturday to fix an appointment with the actress to discuss the role.

“Raja told me to meet him. He said if he liked the script he would talk to Rani. He told me to meet him at the Four Bungalow signal, which is 10 minutes from my house. I reached the signal with a friend. Raja picked me up and we decided to go to a coffee shop two minutes from the place in his car. He was on phone and did not stop at the coffee shop. He did not stop at the next coffee shop as well and took me to a secluded spot at the end of Yari Road,” said the writer-director in her complaint.

She claimed when she began to narrate the story of the film,Raja allegedly grabbed and molested her. She said he told her she would have to compromise if she wanted Rani in the lead. The complainant said soon after she rejected the advances and got off the car she began receiving text messages from Raja that he did not mean to molest her and that he was a nice man. “I just told him he would pay for his crime and along with my mother approached police.”

ACP (Versova) N Sherkhane said: “We are checking the SMSes sent by Raja to the victim.”
