Accused burgled shop two days before molesting nurse

Probe has revealed that Devraj Kanaka burgled a grocery store two days before he allegedly molested a nurse on a local train.

Probe has revealed that Devraj Kanaka (30) and an accomplice burgled a grocery store in Vinoba Bhave Nagar,Kurla West,two days before he allegedly molested a nurse on a local train in the early hours of July 27.

Government Railway Police (GRP) officers said the Kurla resident spurlged the stolen money in a red-light area on Grant Road on July 26 night.

Rajendra Trivedi,senior inspector,Mumbai Central,GRP,said after spending time with a sex worker and getting drunk,Kanaka boarded the train from Grant Road Station to Kurla Saturday morning. Around Rs 10,000 was recovered from him.

Police said Kanaka saw the 23-year-old nurse boarding the second-class women’s compartment at Mumbai Central. He got down at Mahalaxmi and boarded the same compartment.

GRP has asked Railway Protection Force to provide CCTV footage of the stations to corroborate their claim. Kanaka is learnt to be involved in eight-10 house break-ins in 2013 — two in Kalyan,two in Kurla and four in Andhra Pradesh.
