Thane police Saturday arrested a 22-year-old man for allegedly abducting and raping Friday a minor with whom he had a relationship and who had started avoiding him. A friend of accused,who allegedly assisted him in the crime,is wanted in the case.
Kasarwadavli police identified the accused as Thane resident Manish Shinge.
Shinge was in a relationship with the 16-year-old victim for the last six months. However,for the last two months,he had been verbally abusing her and her family,due to which she started avoiding him. On Friday,the victim was on her way home when Shinge and his friend Dhiraj Olekar accosted her, said Senior Inspector D R Pawar,Kasarwadavli police station.
Threatening the victim with dire consequences,the duo allegedly forced her to sit on their bike and took her to an abandoned concrete structure near Waghbil Lake in Thane. Shinge allegedly shut the door and raped the girl.
Shinge told Olekar to get an autorickshaw for himself and to drop the victim home on the motorbike. The girl narrated the incident to her parents as soon as she got home and they approached us,said Pawar.
Shinge was arrested from his residence and booked under Indian Penal Code for kidnap,wrongful confinement and rape and under the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012 for penetrative sexual assault. Relevant sections of the Atrocities Act have also been added,police said.
A court on Saturday remanded Shinge in police custody till April 5,and police are trying to apprehend Olekar,who is on the run.
