The Khar police arrested two men for rash driving on Thursday. The two were allegedly caught racing a Lamborghini and a Ferrari on Carter Road. The cars were being raced as the streets were empty on Thursday on account of the Bharat bandh. The loud noise disturbed the residents of the area who called up police control room and got the drivers arrested. After an accident on the same stretch in 2006 in which a car had mowed down seven persons, the residents of Carter Road area have been asked to report bike and car racing if they spot it,police said.

“Residents said the cars had made several rounds of the area and were making loud noises,” said Mangesh Pote, senior inspector,Khar police. A police team was sent to the spot and they found the red Ferrari and yellow Lamborghini racing. Police said, when they gestured to the drivers — Moinuddin Ibrahim Motiwala (32) and Rushabh Pradeep Jain (25) — asking them to stop, the duo sped away ignoring police. The police team then chased the cars and intercepted them. The two drivers were taken to the police station, where they were arrested for rash driving and evading the police. “The two has been booked under Section 279 of the Motor Vehicle Act,” Pote said, adding as there was no accident, the accused have been released on bail.
