A 17-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped inside a shop less than 800 metres away from the Tilak Nagar police station early Wednesday morning. The police arrested six persons aged 21-23 from the alleged crime spot around 3 am. They said the girl was found in an unconscious state there.

Officers privy to the investigation said an autorickshaw driver tipped them off about some “suspicious activity” behind the shutter of a small lottery shop on the MG Road.

According to the police, the six persons had taken the girl to the spot — the second shop on the corner of Peston Sagar Road Number 4 — around midnight.

“After we received information, we rushed to the spot and found six young men and one unconscious minor girl. The victim was admitted to Rajawadi hospital where she regained consciousness around 8.30 am,” said Bhagwan Sonawane, senior inspector, Tilak Nagar police station.

Officers said preliminary medical tests confirmed sexual assault.

“Investigations have revealed that three of the accused had raped the girl between 12 and 3 am, while the other three were waiting for their turn. We are still trying to find out how the girl came in contact with the accused, the sequence of events that unfolded and who owns the shop where the incident took place,” added Sonawane.

The police said the accused had been arrested under sections 4, 8 and 12 of the The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
