Local Congress workers in Mohali Tuesday carried out a protest against the Punjab Assembly speaker’s denial to discuss on no-confidence motion against the SAD-BJP government. The protesting party workers also burnt effigies of the Punjab Chief Minister, Parkash Singh Badal.

The protesting workers said that the speaker must be neutral and he should not act in a dictatorial manner which Charanjeet Singh Atwal did. The workers also blocked the traffic at Phase 5/ 3B2 light point.

Harkesh Chand Macchlikalan, who was leading the protest, said that the SAD-BJP government has acted in a dictatorial manner and the Congress workers will not tolerate insults to democracy. He added that as party MLAs had gone for a sit-in in the Assembly on Monday night, the workers had decided to start the protests outside. “It is a matter of shame for the Akalis who are unleashing terror among their opponents. Now, the time is changing and we want to convey it to them through a democratic process,” added Macchlikalan.
