12-year-old falls into valley near Kanheri caves,dies

A 12-year-old boy died after falling into a 200-ft-deep valley close to Kanheri caves on Sunday evening.

A 12-year-old boy died after falling into a 200-ft-deep valley close to Kanheri caves on Sunday evening. The Kasturbha Marg police have registered a case of accidental death.

Police said Sumeet Patel,the deceased,was bathing in a stream near Kanheri caves inside the Sanjay Gandhi National Park with a group of six boys when he entered the prohibited area to bathe under a small waterfall.

The area was slippery and Patel tumbled into the 200-ft valley.

“His friends heard him screaming and informed the forest guard. A mobile police van was rushed to the spot and Patel’s body was retrieved from the valley. However,he was declared dead on arrival at Bhagwati hospital,” said Bharat Vishwanath Worlikar,senior inspector of Kasturba Marg police.

Patel lived in the Tallapada area of the national park.
