Woman smuggler held,remanded in custody

A 28-year-old woman smuggler has been arrested by Ludhiana police.

A 28-year-old woman smuggler has been arrested by Ludhiana police. Kajal alias Lucky,who is popularly known as Didi,is a resident of Beri Gate,Amritsar,and had earlier been booked for drug smuggling by Nakodar police in July 2012 with a recovery of 70 gram heroin.

The woman was arrested along with her accomplice Ramesh Kumar alias Johny from near the Ludhiana railway station and later,the police raided Didi’s Amritsar house and found 50 grams of heroin. Johny had 10 grams of heroin with him.

Salem Tabri SHO Dharampal Singh,who led the operation,said,“A few days back,we had arrested one of their gang members,Varinder Singh of Tibba road,and had recovered 40 grams of heroin from him. During investigation,he revealed names of Kajal and Johny. Hence,we laid a trap for both of them and arrested them.”

The duo were arrested on Wednesday and were remanded in 14-day judicial custody on Thursday. In all,100 gram heroin was seized from all three,said the SHO,adding that the person who used to supply drugs to the woman was yet to be trapped.

The woman is a widow and has three kids. Her husband Anil Kumar used to be an employee in Amritsar Municipal Corporation. Kajal’s mother used to take care of her kids while she used to be busy in her drug smuggling in various cities of Punjab. The woman got involved into drug smuggling after the death of her husband,the SHO added.

In July 2012,she was arrested by Nakodar police and later released on bail.
