Three-day event to mark Manto birth centenary

To mark 100 years of Saadat Hassan Manto,the legendry Urdu fiction writer who was born in Ludhiana district on May 11,1912,Adeeb International India,a literary and cultural organisation,will organise a three-day mega event in the first week of October.

To mark 100 years of Saadat Hassan Manto,the legendry Urdu fiction writer who was born in Ludhiana district on May 11,1912,Adeeb International (Sahir Cultural Academy) India,a literary and cultural organisation,will organise a three-day mega event in the first week of October.

Dr Kewal Dheer,chairman of Adeeb International,said the first day of the event would be held at Wagha Border where all the living relatives of Manto,including his three daughters Nighat Patel,Nusrat Jalal and Nuzhat Arshad,would enter the Indian soil along with a deputation of eminent writers and intellectuals from Pakistan. This would be followed by another function scheduled to be held in Amritsar where Manto lived during his school and college days. The second and third day would be held in Ludhiana which would feature three sessions of an Indo-Pak seminar on Manto,awards of honour to the three daughters and other living relatives of Manto,screening of a film on Manto being produced by Rajesh Badal,director of Rajya Sabha TV,New Delhi,and plays on stories of Manto.

Three books entitled Manto Mera Dost (by Dr Kewal Dheer),Manto: Kal Aaj Aur Kal (by Dr Kewal Dheer) and Manto Pacheesi (an anthology of selected short stories of Manto by A Rehman) will be released on this occasion.

Eminent writers,intellectuals,artistes and cultural activists from all over India and abroad are being invited to participate in the mega event.
