Punjab minister for Jails,Tourism,Cultural Affairs,Printing and Stationary,Hira Singh Gabria,said those who were not able to get their blue cards made due to any reason could avail themselves of the subsidised Atta Dal scheme.
He was addressing a gathering at Sarhin village after distributing 20 blue cards on Sunday. He also gave a cheque of Rs 7 lakh for development works in Bhagwanpura,Jarkhar,Umedpur,Almgir,Tibba and Jassar villages.
Gabria said the government has already provided atta at Rs 4 per kg and dal at Rs 20 per kg at subsidised rates to 14 lakh poor people in the state.
He added that according to a survey conducted,one-third of Indias population survives on less than Rs 20 per day. Gabria added that the government was committed for the uplift of the weaker sections of society and Rs 1,350 crore has been spent on different welfare schemes.
The minister said the grant for construction of houses to the homeless people belonging to the scheduled caste,has been enhanced by the government from Rs 25,000 per house to Rs 50,000.
