A student of Muslim Aligarh University has recently completed his Ph.D thesis on freedom fighter Rais-ul-ahrar-Moulana Habib Ludhianavi who wasthe first President of Majlis Ahrar party in 1929 and had been sentenced for 14 years,6 months in jail in 1931 for opposing the British rule.
A copy his thesis was sent by Muslim Aligarh University to Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid Maulana habib-ur-rahman Saani about a week ago. Shahi Imam is the grandson of late Maulana Habib. While showing a copy of the thesis which was done by Dr Mohammad Irfaan of Sitamari,Bihar said,We are very proud that a thesis was done on my grandfather. But at the same time I am sad that none of the universities in Punjab took this initiative though my grandfather had done a lot for the state.
Oxford University had already done a research on Majlis Ahrar party and now Aligarh University did on its first President. The idea of doing a thesis was proposed by Aligarh University professor Janual Sajjudin and it was completed in a 5 years. Dr Irfan had also been awarded a doctorate degree by the University recently. His life had been divided into six parts by Irfaan in which he had explained about his childhood, his political connections, his efforts in freedom movement, his personal life and much more. The thesis is is of 275 pages with break up of 145 chapters.
Maulana Habib had unfurled the National Flag on Jama Masjid in 1931 and had preached against the divide and rule policy of Britishers. He was in direct contact with Jawaharlal Nehru,Mahatama Gandhi,Maulana Azad,Rehmat Kidwai and other freedom fighters.
He said that Irfaan had done his research by collecting data through libraries, visiting various government offices and talking to different people. Shahi Imam told Newsline that soon Irfaan will be invited to Ludhiana and he will be honoured.
He added that as of now only four copies of the thesis in Urdu has been printed and Shahi Imam himself will translate it in Hindi,English and Punjabi so that maximum people can read about the life of his grandfather.
