Ludhiana MP and the National Spokesperson of the Congress Manish Tewari today said that the Akali-BJP government was being discriminatory in giving grants particularly in the rural areas.
He pointed out, during last about five years it had provided grants only to those panchayats where it had its own sarpanches.
Tewari was in Mullanpur on Sunday to distribute cheques for various development works in the rural areas of his parliamentary constituency. Cheques amounting to Rs 1.50 crore were distributed today, while Rs 40 lakh were distributed yesterday. Tewari said,so far during two years of his being the MP he had released grants to the tune of Rs 5.18 crore from his Local Area Development Fund.
The MP maintained that his primary focus has been on giving grants to the schools, particularly the rural areas.
He said, more than half of the grants he had given were for educational institutions since improving the education was his top most priority.
The Congress spokesperson slammed the Akali-BJP government for its claims about development. He asked the government to spell out where is the development and if it really had a single project to its credit.
