Raising slogans against the Punjab government for cheating them, 3442 Teachers’ Union protested at Dana Mandi, Jalandhar bypass, on Sunday. The teachers continued their protest for almost four hours till the police promised a meeting with Deputy Commissioner Rajat Aggarwal and pacified them.
Vikram Dev, president of the union, said, “As many as 3,442 teachers were recruited in May 2011 through Punjab civil services but to date, jobs have not been regularised. We are still working on low salaries despite clearing the test and are posted away from our homes.” Heavy police security was deployed at Dana Mandi but the protest went off peacefully.
