Teachers’ associations go on strike at PAU

On the call given by Punjab Federation of University and College Teachers Association (PFUCTO),members of the Punjab Agricultural University Teachers’ Association organised a dharna in front of the Thapar Hall on Friday. They are demanding immediate notification from the state government on the revised pay scales of university and college teachers according to a notification by the Ministry of Human Resource Development.

Dr G S Saroa and Mukesh Saig,executive heads of the two unions,said all academic activities remained suspended today. Both the associations have called a bandh on March 2,and a 72-hour bandh from March 3.

The Jamhori Kisan Sabha,meanwhile,held a rally in front of PAU gate no. 2. They were demanding that the state government provide adequate funds for research,teaching and extension activities at the university. PAUTA has also made an appeal to other organisations to come up in their support.

A similar dharna was organised by the GADVASU Teachers’ Association in front of the Silver Jubilee Block of the university.

College teachers observe bandh
On the call given by the Punjab Federation of University and College Teachers’ Organisation,college teachers held a dharna on the campus on Friday. The local unit of SCD Government College observed a complete bandh. They are demanding the implementation of UGC pay scales as notified by the Ministry of Human Resource Development on December 31,2008. They are demanding that Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal honour the commitment he made before an 11-member delegation of PFUCTO,which met him on February 13,to clear the notification in the cabinet meeting on February 20.
