The Art of Living spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravishankar’s scheduled visit to the city on Monday has left residents hysterical.

The guru, who is on a Punjab tour and will be arriving in Ludhiana on Monday evening from Mandi Gobindgarh, will be reaching Punjab Agricultural University around 5 pm where he will be meeting leading industrialists,MLAs and councillors of Ludhiana.

Later,he will hold a mahasatsang,Anand Ki Lehar, which is expected to be attended by around 10,000 to 15,000 people at PAU Kisan Mela grounds.

The guru will be accompanied by international religious singers Chitra Roy and Dr Manikantham.

Along with singers, some religious teachers from the US,Argentina,Canada and New Zealand will also be accompanying the guru.

‘No pomp and show’?

While Rishi Bhasin, one of the organisers from the Art of Living,Ludhiana Chapter, told Newsline that “there are strict orders from ashram to avoid pomp and show” and “Guruji has denied any kind of security

as it hassles common public”,preparations are on in full swing.

Devotees held car rallies and did door-to-door campaigning called ‘pad yatras’ throughout the day to invite people to the satsang. The whole city has been flooded with large-size hoardings announcing the visit.

Jagraon bridge,Jalandhar bypass,Ferozepur road,Bharat Nagar chowk,Ghumar Mandi and all major points of the city are flooded with hoardings. However, organisers have promised the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation that these will be removed after the visit.

“An ADCP rank officer with a team of four SHOs will be on duty for security of the guest and crowd management. Along with that, around 150 policemen will be guarding the PAU grounds,” Harsh Bansal,Deputy Commissioner Of Police, told Newsline.

The spiritual guru will be staying for the night at the home of Rishi Bhasin in Rajguru Nagar, said sources. A pandal for ‘special’ devotees and a night langar has been organised. “We have been told to prepare food for the devotees who will be coming to see him,not Guruji,” said an employee from the catering team.

“Guruji will be given purely home-cooked food which will include daal-chawal,vegetables,curd or lassi. Our devotees will be preparing that and since he visits new countries every other day,he is habitual and very easy-going when it comes to food,” said Bhasin. This will be the guru’s fourth visit to Ludhiana, the last one being in 2010.
