Singla, Manak Rekhi groups dominate liquor vend’s draw-of-lots

At the draw-of-lots for 60 zones of liquor vends held at Harsheela Resorts on Saturday, Singla and Manak Rekhi group dominated by winning eight zones each. Shiv Lal group got seven zones While Ponty Chaddha group got two zones, Malhotra group and Chhabra group got five and three zones respectively. Dhillon group won five zones. The auction was held for 60 zones, consisting of 32 city and 28 rural zones.

The excise and taxation department earned total revenue of Rs 710 crore through draw-of-lots. Excise and taxation deputy commissioner Amrit Kaur Gill presided over the event and said the ‘department has already issued directions to all the companies to not open liquor vends near schools and colleges.’

Last year the department earned Rs 556 crore from draw-of-lots of liquor vends. While the number of groups went up from 44 to 60 this year, the number of liquor vends remain same as now each group contains 8-15 vends as compared to 19-22 last year.
