During the orientation session in BCM Arya model senior secondary school, headmistress P K Oberoi told parents that sexual crimes against minors were increasing daily and education of minors was necessary to check sexual abuse. Oberoi was addressing parents of class I in a first-of-its kind lecture by the school.
Present at the lecture was Counsellor Ravinder Kaur who briefed parents that kids aged 5-8 must be told about ‘good touch’ and ‘bad touch’. Regular communication with the child is a must. At times kids get frightened and never tell parents about sexual abuse done by adults. Such cases have come to light through media reports, she added.
Kaur told parents that they must differentiate body parts into different colours and hence should tell kids that which coloured body parts should not be touched by anyone and even kids should be taught to say ‘stop it’ for any bad gesture by anyone.
Every day we open newspapers and feel shocked to read crime against minors, kids really need to get basic knowledge and how to say stop. The parents thus should educate children in their own way so as to make them alert, said Oberoi.
