As many as 25 new buses which were flagged off by Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal in November last will finally hit the road this week.
The fleet of 25 buses includes five AC buses and 10 mini-buses. The buses were not allowed to run because of the Supreme Court ban on issuing permits to buses in Punjab.
City bus manager Baljit Singh said, “We have now got the clearance from SC. They have also allowed us to run mini-buses as a special leave petition was filed by state transport commissioner to permit these buses as these are procured under JNNURM. Earlier, the court banned issuance of permits to buses in Punjab under a petition hearing on mini-buses.”
Additional Commissioner Isha Kalia said, “In the next two to three days, we are expecting 25 buses to be on roads. They will ply on routes like bus stand, railway station, Dholewal, Basti Jodhewal and Preet Palace.”
