Ludhiana administration on Wednesday announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the family of a 5-year old, Armaan, who was crushed under the city bus of Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (LMC) on Tuesday.

Along with the compensation, the administration also announced that a family member would be given a government job and the chowk in Dugri area where the accident happened would be named as ‘Armaan Chowk’ in the name of the child.

The compensation and the job came after the family of the kid staged protest against LMC and administration for hours on Wednesday. Joining the protest was independent MLA Simarjit Singh Bains who demanded action against city bus contractor of Ludhiana MC.

Navdeep, the father of the child, earlier in the day alleged that police wanted him to compromise but he wanted ‘action against MC contractor running city bus and driver.’

The accident took place on Tuesday when the 5-year-old boy who was returning from market after buying snacks was crushed to death by LMC-run city bus on Dhandran road.

Meanwhile, The Indian Express contacted Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria who claimed that LMC is not going to pay Rs 10 lakh directly adding that ‘LMC is standing with the family in tough times when they have lost 5-year old kid.’

“LMC is not directly involved in the incident as contractor was running the bus but we are here to share the grief and stand with family in tough times. LMC is not going to pay Rs 10 lakh to the family but we are going to get their insurance claim done through the bus contractor. If claim will fall short of Rs 10 lakh, then we would be asking contractor to pool in on their behalf and complete the amount of Rs 10 lakh,” said Gohalwaria.

The boy’s father also claimed that driver of the bus was driving recklessly when his son was crushed to death. Meanwhile, Mayor Gohalwaria also claimed that independent MLA Bains ‘instigated’ the family today.

“It is a tragic moment for family who lost their five year old son and unfortunately he will never come back. The monetary compensation can never fill up their son’s place. But some people like MLA Bains who protested with the family today will keep on instigating the family for their own political gimmicks,” he said.
