Big FM turns two and switches on an all-new programming mix

What’s the first thing you do in the morning? Of course you brush but on your way turn don’t you turn on the knob on the radio? And then from the time you first got up,munched on breakfast, drove off to work…the radio follows you through. For two years now, listeners in the Tricity have not just made the most of the programming at the local FM station Big FM 92.7 but the “friends” they have found in the effervescent batch of radio jockeys. “Now,it’s time for more,” the leader of the pack,RJ Anubhav announces as we walk in the studios. Also trooping in behind are RJs Pankaj and Satya followed by a new face. “She’s RJ Anshu, the newest on our Chandigarh station,” briefs Pankaj. The last two years have seen a host of shows, some of which have been runway hits. “But we decided to bring in new freshness,” mentions one of the most popular radio jockeys RJ Pankaj who brings the all-new ‘Seetee Baja Ke’. “There’s so much frustration and stress in our every day lives and one of the segments on this show lets listeners call in and spill their heart out on,” Pankaj smiles to say. That’s followed by his “new and improved” Shararat which is now called ‘Challan’ coupled with ‘Pankaj and PJs’.

Interestingly, the entire programming mix has been tossed up like a French salad resulting in a flavoursome menu,or shall we say lineup! Speaking of new, there’s the bubbling new RJ on the block Anshu. “I worked for a year at the Patiala Big FM station previously,” tells the lady who will take charge of the mid-morning segment called ‘Kitty Party’. Just as the name suggests,RJ Anshu will bring in the ladies’ banter. “There’ll be a lot of fun on the show with segments like ‘Golgappe’ that encourages idle gossip on-air along with ‘Biwi Aur TV’ where I will discuss women-centric soaps, shows et al,” she lists out in one breath. There’s even space for silent sufferers! “Women can call and tell us of the times their husbands did something not nice and they stood silently and watched,” explains Anshu.

Listening to the jockeys make their quirky presentations, one thing stands out clearly – music apart, the listener gets to have his say too. “That’s been an intrinsic part of our programming,” chips in Siddharth Bhardwaj,Big FM’s regional director. While the music remains in sync, there’s more than just fun that’s promised. “My show Chake De Chandigarh dishes out lots of gyan and quizzes presented in an engrossing way,” explains Anubhav who encourages listeners to call in with their problems – be it civic, social and even personal! And yes,the city’s young and restless find a sounding board too at the station. “I host Campus Kamaal and have campus RJs call in with inputs. Then there’s the blind date segment as well,” lists out RJ Satya who steers the Big Geri. Hop on the ride then!
