Punjab Technical University starts distance education course

University of Cambridge unveiled plans to offer its English Language Qualifications and examinations through more than 2000 Learning Centres of Punjab Technical University across the country.

The University of Cambridge on Saturday unveiled plans to offer its English Language Qualifications and examinations through more than 2000 Learning Centres of Punjab Technical University across the country.

N P Singh,Dean Distance Education Programme,PTU said that the main aim of introducing a globally recognised English language programme was its lifelong validity recognised by over 12,000 institutes worldwide. The University of Cambridge ESOL are mapped to the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference),the global benchmark for language assessment.

He said that these qualifications will open a gateway to students for admission in various international colleges and Universities and also increase student’s employability in India & abroad.

T K Arunachalam,the Regional Manager – South Asia,University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations said,“This collaboration will give the students of PTU an opportunity to be part of the over 3 million Cambridge English qualification seekers each year and will also get them access to International English qualifications from the world leaders which will in turn help them in their future endeavours,be it international employability or self-employment.”

Arunachalam further announced,“The implementation of collaborative activities of the Cambridge ESOL will be coordinated by Planet EDU,the authorised centre of Cambridge ESOL which will work collectively with PTU to ensure high quality and standardised administration of the qualifications and training activities.”

Initially these programmes will be available with select learning centres in Punjab.

N P Singh,Dean DDE,PTU emphasised on the need for building a ‘knowledge society’ for the nation.

D S Sekhon,President,All India Punjab Technical University DEP Association added,“We are very pleased to have signed the MOU with the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations as this would help our students acquire English language qualifications and examinations offered by Cambridge ESOL.”
