The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation has decided to slash the reserve price for the parking lot in front of SAD MLA Harish Rai Dhanda’s house by almost 50 per cent. The decision was taken at a meeting that went for long hours at Municipal Corporation’s Zone-D office on Tuesday. It was attended by zonal commissioner Isha Kalia and MC officials A S Sekhon,P S Ghuman,K S Kahlon,Yashpal Anand (deputy controller finance) and Naveen Malhotra.

The decision to slash the price by almost half was taken after a group of contractors raised suspicion over the reserve price of site number 12 (from Aarti Chowk to Madhok Complex) which was kept at more than a whopping Rs 57 lakh making it the costliest site. Contractors alleged that the MC had deliberately inflated the price to keep them out and save parking space in front of the MLA’s home.

Officials, however, maintained that earlier price was a mistake. “The price quoted earlier was by mistake. It was not intentional,” an official said.. “The price of site number 12 has been slashed to around Rs 28 lakh, almost 50 per cent less than earlier base price,” a source who was present at the meeting on Tuesday told Ludhiana Newsline.

The source added that while the price of site number 2 (from Bharat Nagar Chowk to New Courts) can be raised, the prices of other sites from 7 to 11 will witness a downfall of 20 to 30 per cent. The price of site number 13 will be same as of now,the source said.

The MC has found it difficult to auction these parking lots. It was forced to conduct a re-survey after only 4 of the 13 parking lots on Ferozepur road were picked up in an auction on June 26. The re-survey report was submitted to zonal commissioner Isha Kalia on Tuesday. It has found that the parking lots can accommodate lesser number of cars than what the MC had quoted in its earlier survey report. Due to this, prices of the remaining lots have been slashed and tenders will be re-invited.

As per Punjab and Haryana High Court orders,MC has turned the entire Ferozepur road as paid parking and next hearing of court is on July 5 while the MC is looking to dispose off all the sites by July 10. “The prices and potential of all sites was discussed in the meeting on Wednesday as per new survey report and according to them base prices have been revised,” A S Sekhon said.
