Following an attack on Namdhari Guru Thakur Udai Singh in the UK,security was beefed up in and around Bhaini Sahib area on Sunday. Apart from the area police, extra force was sent from Ludhiana and the anti-riot cell was also deputed to avoid any untoward incident.

Police Commissioner P S Gill said,“ADCP Naresh Sharma is camping with other police officers in the area and we are keeping an eye on the commuters travelling on the road leading to Bhaini Sahib and other connecting roads as well.”

On Sunday,a non-Namdhari Sikh attacked Thakur Udai Singh who suffered injury to his nose and was admitted to a hospital. He was attacked in a gurdwara in Leicester.

The Namdhari sect was divided into two after the death of Satguru Jagjit Singh in December 2012. One sect is being headed by Thakur Udai Singh and the other by his elder brother Thakur Dilip Singh.

International Namdhari Samaj, who are followers of Thakur Dilip Singh, have condemned this incident and stated that the culprit should be given the strictest possible punishment.

So far,the Bhaini Sahib headquarters have not blamed anyone for this attack.
