The contractual/casual employees working in Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) for the past more than 12 years on Monday lashed out against the authorities for not giving them even the minimum wages.

The employees at a press conference alleged that despite clear orders by Parliament on minimum wages, inhuman exploitation is taking place.

V A N Namboodiri, president of BSNL Employees’ Union and BSNL Casual/Contractual Employee Union, said,“Instead of minimum wages of Rs 8,000,all contractual workers are being paid only from Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,000. The case is no different for Punjab circle. As per rules,no identity cards are issued. In violation of orders from BSNL corporate office to make payments through cheque or bank, cash is paid so that manipulation can be done.”

“We warn BSNL management to ensure at least the minimum wages, failing which employees will start agitation and go on strike,” he added
