On the 14th day of the PAU students strike,vice-chancellor Dr B S Dhillon on Wednesday finally broke the ice after a brainstorming meeting of deans and other officials which was on since morning at Sutton House.

The Dean of College of Agriculture Dr PPS Lubana with estate officer Jaskaran Singh Mahal made students end their hunger strike in front of Thapar Hall and offered them juice and fruit cake.

The students were later seen enjoying meals at Nescafe in Students Home. However, while authorities said that the final decision will be conveyed through formal notice in the morning, sources said that the VC has finally taken back the suspension orders of three students.

“They just told us that our demands have been taken care of and good news will be there in morning on notice boards,” said Karanvir,vice-president,PAU Students Union, adding, regular classes will be held from Thursday and the strike has been called off.

Sources said that the authorities have agreed to end the deadlock on Wednesday as they would have been answerable to the board members on Thursday.

Sources also hinted that authorities have taken the most lenient view possible of the issue and have reduced the punishment of three students to the minimum level possible, cancelling one year rustication of all three.

It is to be noted that on July 22,three students of engineering college,Jashanpreet,Dilpreet and Harpreet, were found sleeping on the road and they were under the influence of alcohol. However, students maintained that they were not drunk. “A solution has been reached which will be conveyed tomorrow,” said Jaskaran Mahal, estate officer.
