“Takht babal do,taj badal do. Beimanon ka raj badal do… PUSU zindabad.”

“PU te gabru te,mutiyaron chalo pher baji maro, jit apane pher. SOPU SOPU SOPU.”

These are some of the jingles prepared by the two major parties of the university,PUSU and SOPU,to woo voters. Besides these lyrical jingles, rap versions are also available for those who prefer that kind of music. Both parties have about five jingles which have been recorded by the university students on cell phones. Party supporters have circulated these jingles amongst friends and have made them into their ringtones and caller tunes.

SOPU’s master lyricist Babbar has created all the jingles for his party. “I have made several songs in the past few weeks, which we even sing during our election campaigns. I am happy that they have turned out to be pretty catchy and our party supporters often like to hum these to themselves,” he says.

“The jingles reveal a lot about the spirit of the parties and add fun to the campaigning process,” says Sumit Gokhalaney,a PUSU leader. The SOPU jingle includes lyrics where students support their favourite candidates by providing monetary support to them.
