An I-10 car suddenly caught fire in Model Town area on Thursday.

Panic spread among those using the same road when they saw the car on fire. Luckily, the owner of the car was at the market and the car was parked when the incident happened.

Eyewitness Vishwajit Sharma informed the fire department after seeing flames emanating from the car.

Sharma said that instead of calling for help, people on the spot were busy clicking photographs and making videos on the phone. “There was no one inside car and others were clicking photographs and making videos,” he added.

The fire personnel reached within 15 minutes with one fire tender, and doused the flames. The fire department official said that the cause of the fire was not known and the car had a temporary registration number.

Inderjit Singh, station house officer at Model Town Police Station, said that the owner of the car was identified as Sukhbir Singh, a resident of Dugri, who later recorded his statement with the police.
