After continuous complaints by dairy farmers, finally on Wednesday farmers handed over a person to the Tajpur police who was selling straw from dyeing units instead of giving it to the dairy farmers. Few agents are selling straw to the dyeing units and causing shortage of cattle food.
DS Oberoi, president of Tajpur dyeing association said,We caught hold of a man who was sending straw to the dyeing units and we handed him over to the police.
Oberoi said,Straw was Rs 100 per 40 kg last year and this year the prices have gone up to Rs 200 for every 40 kg. This is due to the shortage created by the dyeing units who are using it as fuel. Dyeing units can opt for other things for fuel but for cattle food cannot be replaced.
Diary association also complained that the dyeing units put some other fuel material on top of the straw so as to show that they were not using cattle food as fuel. Dairy association members also gave pictures to the police to prove their point.
Few days back, the members had written to the deputy commissioner Rahul Tewari and had asked them to keep a tab on such agents.
Oberoi added,If this is not checked we will be forced to increase the prices of milk as we are being forced to buy straw at higher prices.
