A total of 22 buses under the Ludhiana MC’s city bus service have stopped running on four routes for two days. Commuters are a harried lot as buses have stopped plying on four major routes due to negligence of MC which has failed to procure vehicle fitness certificates from the district transport office.

The four routes on which city bus service has stopped operations are: Ayali Chowk, Kohara to bus stand, Sahnewal and Tajpur road to Atam Park. An additional fleet of 11 buses is also not working due to damage in their functioning and lying dumped with the MC.

Baljit Singh, manager, city bus service, told Newsline, “Staff was busy in elections and thus renewal of fitness certificates got delayed. We are expecting the renewal in maximum two more days and then 22 buses will be back on roads. We cannot run buses without fitness certificates as no one will be responsible if any mishap occurs.”     s
