While there has been no headway in the inquiry into the slapping incident that rocked the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation on September 24,Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria shared the stage with a person involved in the incident.

MC superintendent Rajeev Bhardwaj was given a tight slap on the face when he told Yashpal Chaudhary from Bhartiya Valmiki Dharam Samaj to seek permission for putting up hoardings in the whole city from additional commissioner Isha Kalia. A sweeper employed with MC,Ravi, gave a slap on Bhardwaj’s face. Later,MC Commissioner Rahul Tewari formed a three-member committee to probe the issue and submit a report but not even a single hearing of the inquiry has taken place so far.

Bhardwaj said,“I have not been called by any of the committee members to present my side of the story and no inquiry has been done. This is nothing less than putting the dignity of your own employee at stake and attending the functions of opposite party.”

However,Gohalwaria said the the slap incident was “an administrative issue”. “It is an administrative issue and, according to me,will not have any effect on the rally. Commissioner is answerable as to why inquiry is not being done. I would have been answerable if someone approached me but I was never approached with a complaint,” Gohalwaria told Newsline.

While the head of the committee probing the incident,Davinder Singh, zonal commissioner D,was not available for comment,Dharam Singh, zonal commissioner C,said,“Due to some issue, date of last hearing was cancelled but we will be calling both parties soon to record statements and a report will be submitted.”

Meanwhile,Gohalwaria on Thursday cancelled an important meeting on sanitation issues which was to be held at the MC headquarters at Zone A to mark his attendance with Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal who reached the city to attend Valmiki Shobha Yatra at Daresi grounds.

While the shobha yatra was meant to start around 5 pm,the mayor cancelled the meeting scheduled for 3 pm and reached Circuit House to share a ‘cup of tea’ with CM,said sources.

“The meeting was organised to discuss poor sanitation conditions in the city and we called officials at 3 pm to Zone A. But suddenly the meeting was called off and we were told that a new date will be announced and it has been postponed,” said an official from MC health department.
