Work in BRS Nagar,Sarabha Nagar and Haibowal not completed

It is easy for politicians to announce developmental projects in the city but no one takes the accountability of completing them. Contractors, who were given charge of various Sangat Darshan works in the city, have left their work midway leaving the residents fuming.

Whether it is the widening of roads in BRS Nagar, sewer pipes for Karmeempura or road metalling in Haibowal Kalan, residents are at the receiving end.

In BRS Nagar I-block,where roads were dug up for the purpose of road widening two months ago,the contractor has shown no interest to come back and complete the work except for throwing heaps of stones and mud on the road sides. Residents are facing tough times while crossing the roads littered with pebbles and mud.

MC Commissioner G S Ghuman, too, admitted that the contractor is at fault but executive engineer H C Salaria said,“We are giving enough time to the other departments to complete the work if any like laying of telephone wires because later on,the digging work will start.” However,he had no idea whether any other department had to do carry out work in the area.

J S Bhatia,a resident of the area, said,“It is getting difficult to cross the road. In the name of road widening, many plants have been uprooted.”

The same contractor has also been assigned the work on the GT Road and a few other areas and therefore, left the BRS Nagar work halfway.

The sewer work in Kareempura, which was also started two months ago, too,is waiting for completion. With an estimated cost of Rs 3 lakh,it was scheduled to be completed in a month’s time but the contractor is taking his sweet time spelling more trouble for the commuters. Apart from this, shopkeepers in Haibowal are crying their lungs out to get metalling project completed in their area but all in vain. Now,the councillors of three wards have threatened to sit on dharna because authorities are not ready to punish the contractor.

The road outside Leisure Valley in Sarabha Nagar too has met with similar fate. This road-widening project, which was sanctioned two years ago,has not been started as yet. Strangely, the contractor has not been questioned all this time. The issue has been raised in the general house meetings a number of times but no action has been taken.
