BSP workers held a protest in Payal constituency on Sunday, alleging that party supremo and former UP chief minister Mayawati was not accessible to them and she was not even ready to listen to the problems of the grassroots workers.

The workers said they were not ready to accept Gurlal Saila as Punjab president of the BSP.

Earlier, protests were also held in Ludhiana,Phillaur and a few more areas.

After the Assembly elections,Saila was made the new state BSP president while his predecessor Avtar Singh Karimpuri was put on the advisory panel.

Saila had expelled Ramanjeet Lalli, the BSP candidate from Ludhiana East, from the party, but the latter continues to call himself a BSP leader.

“About 10 days back, more than 300 workers from Punjab had gone to meet Mayawati but she sent a representative to listen to our problems. Workers are really disheartened,” said Lalli. “In fact, she hardly used to meet us even when she was CM. We want to see her as the future PM of the country. This gives a wrong message when she never meets us.”

The workers, who burnt effigies of Saila, demanded that a new state president should be chosen after taking their consent and no one should be superimposed on them.
