An rivalry between two groups came back to haunt Jhande village when one group allegedly fired at a member of the other group late last night leaving one Sukhchain Singh wounded. The police suspect that Balwinder Singh fired at the victim to avenge the murder of his father Harjit Singh who was shot dead last June by the other group.

Meanwhile, the Sadar police today booked four persons Balwinder Singh,Sharanjit Singh,Baljit Singh and Manpreet Singh in an attempt to murder case.

Injured Sukhchain Singh, who was out on parole, has been admitted to the DMC Hospital and his condition is stated to be out of danger. “He has received a gunshot on his shoulder,” said SHO Mandeep Singh.

Accompanied by his uncle Sharanjit Singh (brother of deceased Harjit Singh) and Sharanjit’s two sons Manpreet Singh and Baljit Singh,Balwinder Singh attacked Sukhchain Singh when had come to meet one Sadha Singh, father of Amandeep Singh, the main accused in the murder of Harjit Singh (father of Balwinder Singh). Sources said that Sukhchain Singh is a friend of Amandeep Singh. “Sukhchain Singh is serving life imprisonment in another double murder case in the Ludhiana jail where Amandeep Singh is lodged,” said SHO Mandeep Singh.

It was on June 19 last year when Harjit Singh (55) had been shot dead in his fields on the outskirts of the village. Later,Amandeep Singh and Harjinder Singh Nikka were found guilty and they are lodged in the Ludhiana Central Jail and facing the trial.

Sources said that Harjit Singh, the deceased, had killed Amandeep Singh’s grandfather Chanan Singh in the 70s. And Chanan Singh was the great grandfather of Amandeep Singh, the main accused in the muder of Harjit Singh. The police said that Harjit was a juvenile at the time of Chanan Singh’s murder due to which he had been given lenient sentence and was released early.

Sources said that besides there were some political rivalry also behind the murder of Harjit Singh as Amandeep Singh is an Akali leader’s relative and it is suspected that he along with his supporters had killed Harjit because he had actively campaigned for the candidates of a rival party in the last year’s panchayat elections.

No arrests have been made as yet. These villagers alleged that Sukhchain Singh, who had been convicted in another double murder and was serving life imprisonment, had been sent by Amandeep Singh to teach a lesson to Balwinder Singh and other relatives of Harjit Singh.
